Ch. 4599: Married At First Sight Chapter 4599

Chapter 4599

Marissa added, ā€œA matchmaker can set up a blind date, but they can’t guarantee a perfect outcome every time. I’m honestly honored to have met President York today. I never expected him to like me. I wasn’t holding out hope to begin with, so this result doesn’t surprise me.ā€

Romina glanced over at her, then turned her attention back to the road.

ā€œYou’re still young, Marissa. You’ve just entered the workforce. Focus on your career for now—put in the effort and build something for yourself. That kind of foundation will give you an edge in love and marriage down the road.ā€

ā€œAt the very least, I won’t get looked down on by my future in-laws,ā€ Marissa said with a smile. ā€œYou’re right. I’ll focus on my work. After a few years, when I’ve accomplished something,Ā thenĀ I’ll think about relationships. I’m not in a rush.ā€

Romina nodded. ā€œKeep at it. I believe you’ll go far.ā€

ā€œThank you, Vice President. I’ll do my best.ā€

When they returned to the company, Marissa got out of the car first. Instead of heading straight to the office building, she strolled off in another direction. She didn’t want anyone to see her getting out of the vice president’s car.

Only Romina and her secretary knew about the blind date at lunch. The secretary had quietly informed her that she’d be meeting with President York.

Marissa had been worried the blind date would go nowhere—and worse, that it might damage her reputation.

Maybe Romina had already suspected the date wouldn’t lead to anything.

Romina, meanwhile, got out of the car last but entered the building first. She went straight to her office floor via the elevator.

Her secretary was already waiting and greeted her with an eager, gossipy smile.

Romina laughed. ā€œIt’s not work hours yet. I’ll give you ten minutes to gossip. Come in.ā€

The secretary giggled and followed her into the office.

As soon as the door shut, she asked eagerly, ā€œVice President, how did it go? Any chance of success?ā€

ā€œAre we still moving forward with the evening blind date?ā€

Romina settled onto the couch in the lounge area. The secretary quickly poured her a glass of warm water.

After drinking half, Romina sighed and said, ā€œThere’s no hope at all. They greeted each other when they first met, but after that, River didn’t evenĀ lookĀ at the girl. I asked him to serve her some food, and he said he didn’t know what she liked and didn’t want to get it wrong. He didn’t talk to her, didn’t engage at all. I felt so awkward as the matchmaker. Honestly, I don’t think he even wants to date. He’s just using this whole thing as an excuse to mess with me. Setting up dates for him and sitting through them feels like a punishment. I’d rather go through a stack of reports than do this thankless job.ā€

The secretary laughed. ā€œI kind of figured that’d happen. President York’s standards are sky-high. So many powerful women have tried to pursue him over the years and got nowhere. Now we send in a new hire—just a regular employee—and expect him to fall for her? No way.ā€

Romina sighed. ā€œI’m finally realizing I never should’ve signed that agreement with him. It’s like I walked straight into a trap—and IĀ knewĀ it was a trap, but I still went in. All because I got drunk. Alcohol ruins everything. Never again. Two or three drinks,Ā max, from now on.ā€

She had learned her lesson. Getting drunk could easily lead to chaos, and she wasn’t about to let it happen again.

The secretary smiled, trying to comfort her. ā€œJust think of it like this: you’re treating President York to lunch and dinner every day. The blind date part? That’s just a formality. He’s not taking it seriously anyway.ā€
