Chapter 4633

ā€œBrother! Brother!ā€

Belle shouted after her brother while running.

But Maverick had already run too far ahead to hear her.

Belle grew anxious, thinking her brother was being mean for not waiting.

Zachary and Serenity followed from behind at a steady pace.

Zachary kept calling out, ā€œBelle, don’t run too fast—watch your step!ā€

The little girl would run for a bit, then stop and glance back at her parents. Each time, she’d point in the direction her brother had gone and shout again, ā€œBrother! Brother!ā€

She was clearly blaming him for leaving her behind.

Zachary caught up and said with a warm smile, ā€œBrother ran too fast and didn’t wait for Belle, huh? Should Daddy carry you to catch up?ā€

Belle nodded with a little hum of agreement.

Zachary scooped her up in his arms, and when Serenity caught up, the three of them continued toward the lotus garden together.

ā€œThat boy runs like the wind,ā€ Zachary muttered, ā€œdidn’t even think to wait for his sister.ā€

Serenity chuckled. ā€œIt’s been ten days since he saw his great-grandmother. Of course, he missed her. It makes sense he’d run straight to her.ā€

ā€œBelle doesn’t need to worry—we’re right here. Where could her brother possibly go?ā€

Serenity wiped the sweat from Belle’s face with a tissue and added, ā€œDon’t worry, sweetie. We’re home now. Brother isn’t going anywhere. Let’s take our time walking. Great-grandmother will come back to the house once she knows we’re here.ā€

Belle nodded again obediently.

Meanwhile, the old lady and the others met Maverick halfway.

ā€œGreat-grandma!ā€

As soon as Maverick saw her, he picked up his pace again.

ā€œBaby, slow down!ā€ the old lady called out anxiously. ā€œBe careful not to fall!ā€

Still, she moved forward quickly to meet him.

Soon enough, the great-grandmother and great-grandson were face-to-face.

The old lady smiled warmly and reached to pick him up, but Maverick stopped her. ā€œGrandma, I’m a big boy now. I’m too heavy for you.ā€

ā€œWho said that?ā€ she teased. ā€œEven if I’m old, I can still hold you. Come here—let me see how heavy you’ve gotten. Have you been eating and sleeping well at your Uncle River’s house?ā€

She hugged him tightly before putting him back down.

ā€œYou look thinner. Did your uncle not take good care of you? When he gets back, I’m going to scold him for not feeding you properly. You even got tanned!ā€

Although she only held him for a brief moment, Maverick was thrilled.

As the first great-grandchild, he held a special place in her heart.

Back when Zachary was young, he’d been her favorite grandchild—and now Zachary’s kids, especially Maverick and Belle, were her darlings.

ā€œGrandma, we got a little tanned because we were playing outside,ā€ Maverick explained. ā€œMom says it’s healthy to get some sun. Uncle River is really busy with work. Sometimes he cooks for us, but most of the time we eat out. The food’s not as good as at home, so I didn’t eat much. Maybe that’s why I lost a little weight.ā€

Jasmine reached over and pinched his cheek lightly. ā€œBaby, you haven’t lost weight. Your cheeks are still chubby.ā€

ā€œAunt Jasmine, I’m not fat!ā€ Maverick protested, frowning.

His mom always said it was just baby fat and he’d slim down as he got older.
