Ch. 4695: Married At First Sight Chapter 4695
Chapter 4695
After finishing his call with the head of the detective agency, Trenton headed straight for his car and drove off.
Camryn returned to Wildridge Manor, with Trenton quietly following behind.
The moment he parked in the villaâs driveway, he heard a familiar, cheerful voice calling out.
âUncle! Uncle!â
Hearing his nephewâs bright greeting instantly lifted Trentonâs mood.
He had barely shut his car door before Cairo came barreling toward him, wrapping both arms around one of his legs.
âUncle, youâre finally here! I missed you so much. Did you miss me?â Cairo asked, looking up with wide, expectant eyes.
Trenton bent down, scooping him up with a smile. âHow could I not miss Cairo? I missed you so much that I came over the moment I had some free time.â
âReally? Then, Uncle, can you play with me today?â
âOf course,â Trenton chuckled. âCome on, letâs head inside. Are your parents home?â
âTheyâre backâinside,â Cairo answered.
Carrying his nephew, Trenton walked toward the main building.
A group of little boys came running out of the house, clearly on their way to play somewhere. The two older boys in front stopped when they saw him, and the rest followed their lead.
âUncle Trenton,â Sonny greeted politely.
âGood afternoon, Uncle Trenton,â Titus added.
The rest of the children chorused their own greetings.
Trenton approached, still holding Cairo, and patted Sonny on the shoulder. âItâs been a while since we last saw each other. Youâve grown a lot, Sonnyâyouâre practically a teenager now.â
Sonny grinned. âUncle Trenton, donât you always say kids grow up fast?â
He was already in junior high school.
âThatâs true,â Trenton said with a smile. âYou kids grow up fast⌠and we adults just keep getting older.â
âYouâre still young, Uncle Trenton. If you call yourself old, then what does that make my parents?â Sonny teased.
Trenton laughed. âStill as quick-witted as ever, I see.â
He glanced at Titus. They didnât know each other well, but Trenton knew Titus was the adopted son of the Johnson familyâs eldest son in Annenburgâand Sonnyâs childhood friend. The two had been inseparable since they were little, and even living hundreds of miles apart hadnât weakened their bond.
âWhere are you all headed?â Trenton asked.
âWeâre going fishing at the foot of the mountain,â Maverick replied. âGrandmaâs visiting down there, and our parents said we could go play.â
âOh?â Trenton turned to Cairo. âWant to join your brothers?â
âYes!â Cairo, who moments earlier had been clinging to his uncle, wriggled to be put down. The second his feet touched the ground, he took off running with the others, leaving Trenton behind.
Trenton watched them go, calling out a few words of caution before they disappeared. But behind his smile was a hint of envy.
His nephews and their friends were luckyâgrowing up surrounded by brothers who played together, fought, and made up just as quickly. That closeness explained why the York family bond was so strong.
Trenton had grown up without close friends. After his parents sent him to a strict boarding school, he had made some connections, but those friendships eventually faded.
When his parents were sent to prison, most of his old classmates and friends quietly cut ties. Even his college friends drifted away after graduationâexcept Nancy.
She was the one person who stayed. The girl he liked. She never judged him for his family background.
But⌠would her parents feel the same?
With that thought lingering, Trenton turned and headed back inside.
