Winnie replied, "Thank you for your help, Mr. Brown."

"It’s no trouble at all," Sonny said.

He escorted the grandfather and granddaughter to the top floor and waited until they entered their room before leaving.

After they went inside, Chairman Francoeur sat down on the sofa without saying a word, lost in thought.

Winnie poured him a glass of water, placed it in his hand, then sat beside him and tilted her head slightly. "What are you thinking about, Grandpa?"

Chairman Francoeur let out a long sigh.

"Winnie, why can’t God be a little fair? Look at the York family—they’re thriving, the whole family is harmonious, the brothers and uncles get along well, and no one fights for power. The York brothers truly respect and care for each other. And look at our family now—there are only three of us. God really isn’t fair."

After a brief silence, Winnie said calmly, "Grandpa, there’s no such thing as fairness in this world. You think it’s unfair that our family is small, but others think it’s unfair that we’re rich while they struggle. Not many families are as blessed with virtue and prosperity as the Yorks. That kind of fortune must come from generations of good deeds. We should be content. At least we have wealth that some people couldn’t earn even after several lifetimes of hard work."

Chairman Francoeur had no reply.

It was true. People always noticed what others had and felt their own lives were unfair, yet there were countless people worse off than themselves.

There was no absolute fairness.

Many families were weighed down by mortgages, car payments, and the pressure of raising children and supporting elderly parents.

"Grandpa, don’t envy others," Winnie said gently. "We’re very fortunate too. We have a lot."

Chairman Francoeur sighed again. "Even so, I can’t help envying those three old men in the York family. Their house is full of children and grandchildren. They’re only a few years younger than me, yet we’re of the same generation. It really shows how differently people’s lives can turn out."

Winnie smiled. "Grandpa, don’t worry. One day, you’ll also have a house full of children and grandchildren. As long as you take good care of yourself and live to be a hundred, you’ll see your great-grandchildren grow up, get married, and have children. You’ll have a full house too."

Chairman Francoeur paused. "...If that day ever comes, I could die without regrets."

"Grandpa, don’t talk about dying," Winnie said firmly. "We should live well—live well enough to make certain people angry. Some people are waiting for us to fall. We can’t let them get their wish."

"Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you," he said quickly. "I won’t dwell on it anymore. I’ll live well. Like you said, many people envy us. We already have plenty."

"Exactly. What we have is something countless people long for but can’t obtain."

A family as wealthy as the Francoeurs was rare in the entire country. Their fortune already surpassed that of over a billion people.

They should be grateful.

After a pause, Chairman Francoeur asked, "Winnie, do you really feel nothing about competing with the young master?"

He still couldn’t resist asking how she felt about Baby.

In his mind, the York family had excellent genes. If his granddaughter married into the York family, she would surely have sons. Winnie had once said she wanted at least two children—if she had two boys, she could break the Francoeur family’s single-son pattern.

That way, he could truly rest easy.
