Ch. 5488: Married at First Sight Chapter 5488
Chapter 5488
One of the uncles said, "We'll choose suitable candidates for the Patriarch. All he has to do is meet them. Patriarch, take a look at these photos and see if anyone catches your interest."
The Eighth Uncle picked up the bag and handed it to Titus.
Titus accepted it without objection. He opened the bag and pulled out a thick stack of photographs. Every picture was a professionally retouched portrait, complete with makeup, making it impossible to tell what the women actually looked like.
He casually flipped through a few before handing the stack to Jennifer behind him.
"Jennifer, have a look too."
Jennifer accepted the photos and examined several carefully. Then she neatly stacked them and returned them to Titus.
"Young Master, these are your blind dates. You should take your time looking through them. My taste may not be the same as yours, so I can't make that decision for you.
Besides, I can't tell what they really look like."
Without looking through the photos again, Titus placed them back into the bag.
"These are all heavily styled portraits. Every one of them is wearing makeup, so there's no way to tell what they actually look like.
Next time, if my uncles want to show me photos, please bring pictures without makeup. I won't look at made-up photos, not even with light makeup.
And no beauty filters either. Otherwise, the photos aren't genuine."
The room fell silent as several of the elders exchanged glances.
Finally, Lennox spoke.
"If the Patriarch doesn't think the photos are enough, should we arrange for you to meet them in person?"
Titus asked, "Are they all from wealthy families?"
Lennox nodded.
"They're all daughters of prominent families. Even the least qualified come from respectable households. They must be worthy of the Patriarch. How could we possibly introduce someone from an ordinary family?"
Titus said, "When we hold the family banquet for our relatives, friends, and business leaders, these young ladies will attend with their families, won't they? Tell them to come without makeup that day. That way, I can meet them all at once."
Everyone was speechless.
Would those wealthy young women, who never went out without makeup, really agree to attend completely bare-faced?
In reality, the so-called wealthy daughters they had chosen for Titus all came from families that were already in decline.
For generations, the wives of the Labbe Patriarchs had come from influential families, giving the family valuable alliances.
Thirty years earlier, Lennox and his accomplices had murdered the Patriarch and wiped out his entire household. They hadn't spared the Patriarch's maternal relatives either. Titus's maternal uncle's family was devastated, driven into bankruptcy, and ultimately destroyed.
Fearing that the mistress's family might uncover the truth, they decided to eliminate the threat entirely. They even framed and discredited her family.
It seemed that one of Titus's maternal cousins still lived in Havenmill. Her family had been destroyedβsome relatives were killed, some imprisoned, and others forced to flee. Those who were imprisoned had been falsely accused and given severe sentences.
That cousin now worked at a supermarket in Havenmill, earning only three to four thousand dollars a month. She was married, and her husband's family lived an ordinary life.
Together, the couple earned a modest income, but they were raising three children, making life even more difficult.
Lennox hadn't completely eliminated Titus's maternal relatives. He had deliberately left that cousin alive in Havenmill.
Not because he was merciful, but because he intended to use her as bait.
