Glancing at the caller ID, Winnie said to Sonny, "It's my grandfather."

Sonny smiled and gestured for her to answer.

Then he turned to look out the window, quietly admiring the scenery of Donimingon.

"Grandpa," Winnie answered.

Old Mr. Francoeur asked, "Winnie, have you picked up Sonny?"

"Yes," Winnie replied. "We've picked him up and we're on our way back to the city."

"Good," Old Mr. Francoeur said. "Head straight to the Donimingon Hotel. I've already reserved a private dining room. We can eat as soon as you arrive. Do you want to order ahead, or wait until you get here?"

"We'll order after we arrive."

Since Sonny was the guest, she naturally wanted him to choose a couple of dishes he liked.

Having spent time with him, Winnie knew that although Sonny didn't appear to be a picky eater, he actually had refined tastes. He had grown up enjoying excellent food, and the people around him were all skilled cooks.

Old Mr. Francoeur continued, "All right, we'll wait until you get here to order. By the way, your mother just called. She wanted to know when you'll be free. Your uncle found another promising young man and wants you to make time for a blind date in the next couple of days."

The old man felt utterly helpless.

His daughter-in-law always listened to her own family more than anyone else, yet he remained patient with her.

After all, she had chosen to remain a widow for nearly thirty years and had endured immense pressure to give birth to his son's posthumous child.

Without her, the Francoeur family line truly might have ended.
