Mrs. Lafayette laughed before her husband could answer. "He loves chess more than anything. At home, he’s always pestering me to play, but I’m terrible at it and always lose. Eventually, I refused to play altogether. Neither Father nor Donovan has time for it, so half the time he can’t find a partner."

Matthias smiled. "Then I’ll gladly play a few rounds with you later."

He quickly summoned someone to bring a chess set to the pavilion in the lotus garden.

When they reached the pond, Mrs. Lafayette paused, her breath catching. The view was stunning—miles of lotus flowers stretched before them, some in full bloom, others budding, others with petals drifting away, leaving behind green seed pods.

"How beautiful," she whispered.

The Yorks’ wealth was undeniable, but it was their taste and refinement that impressed her most.

Rosella gestured toward the water. "We also have a rose garden. I’ll take you there afterward. It has an even greater variety of flowers."

Mrs. Lafayette leaned over the railing, admiring the blossoms within reach. "When we arrived, I saw vast flower fields at the foot of the mountain. I heard many of Wiltspoon’s flower shops get their supplies from here?"

Rosella smiled and looked to Serenity. "That would be Seren’s domain now. She manages all of it."

Serenity nodded. "Yes, many of the city’s flower shops are supplied by our fields, and even shops in neighboring cities purchase from us. With online shopping and livestream sales booming, our flowers are now shipped nationwide."

As the eldest York daughter-in-law, Serenity had naturally taken over much of the household’s management. Though she also ran her own company, she bore her share of family responsibilities.

Fortunately, the York family had built a strong, reliable management team over the years. Serenity rarely had to intervene beyond reviewing accounts and occasionally checking in to ensure operations kept up with the times. If something lagged, she and the team would quickly adjust strategy.

Mrs. Lafayette nodded thoughtfully. "Yes, livestreaming is everywhere now. Even our Lafayette family has set up livestream studios. Times are changing fast—if we don’t adapt, we’ll be left behind."

Rosella then led her guests from the lotus pond to the rose garden, and finally, to the children’s playground. The sound of laughter carried on the breeze, drawing Mrs. Lafayette closer.

Even as a wealthy woman herself, she was taken aback by the Yorks’ estate. The manor was vast, immaculately maintained, and full of life. And here was a playground designed entirely for the children—a luxury few homes could accommodate.

Inside, a group of little ones played happily. The youngest had nannies by their side, while the older children, like Maverick, were free to play without constant supervision.
