Ch. 4919: Married At First Sight Chapter 4919
Chapter 4919
“Dr. Legare, you know Dr. Pollock doesn’t love you,” Yehua said, her voice filled with quiet frustration. “So why keep torturing yourself? Just let me take you home. What—are you afraid I’ll eat you if I do?”
She forced a small smile, trying to lighten the mood. “Don’t worry. I’ll wait until the day you actually accept me. I’d never take advantage of you while you’re drunk. I’m not that kind of woman.”
Joaquin’s face flushed slightly. Her words had hit too close to home.
He knew Yehua loved him—just as deeply as he loved Aitana. But his heart was stubborn. It refused to turn toward the person who was willing to give him everything.
In truth, he’d fallen for Aitana the moment they met. From that day on, he was sure they were meant for each other. He had wanted to pursue her right away, but back then, she already had a boyfriend.
Yehua, who quietly admired him, couldn’t compete with Aitana. She couldn’t insert herself into their relationship and become a homewrecker.
When Aitana’s boyfriend later found someone else and broke up with her, Joaquin was secretly overjoyed.
Outwardly, he had comforted her, cursed her ex-boyfriend in front of her, and played the role of the devoted friend.
For years, he’d been by her side—caring for her, visiting her home, making himself known to everyone in her family. Even people who frequented her uncle’s clinic knew who he was.
His feelings weren’t subtle. Everyone saw through them.
Yet every time he confessed, Aitana refused—firmly, clearly, and without hesitation.
She had told him that love couldn’t be earned through persistence, that no matter how much he did for her, she would never love him.
Why?
What was wrong with him?
At his age, Joaquin already owned a clinic, had a house and a car in the city, and some savings in the bank. He’d achieved what most of his classmates could only dream of.
While others still worked their way up in hospitals, he had already become financially independent—without any help from his family. His relatives praised his parents endlessly for raising such a capable son.
Every month, he sent money home—a sum that most people couldn’t make in an entire month. His success gave his family security and pride.
But even with all of that, Aitana still didn’t love him.
It had to be because of that man named York.
That useless man who lived off his cousin’s wife—what kind of pride did he have? Joaquin couldn’t understand what Aitana saw in him.
Sure, Alex York was handsome. But what else?
He didn’t have a real job. He wasn’t ambitious. He depended on his cousin’s wife’s money to get by.
What was so attractive about that?
“Yehua,” Joaquin said bitterly, touching his own face, “am I really that ugly? I’m not as good-looking as York, sure—but come on, no man should look that perfect. Maybe he even had plastic surgery. How else could he look so flawless?”
He laughed mockingly. “He’s tall, well-dressed, confident—he looks like a man with a great career. But in reality, he’s unemployed. Just helps his cousin’s wife collect rent. And yet, somehow, that makes him desirable?”
He scoffed. “His cousin’s wife is rich, but she’s married—to his cousin! How can he still live off her without shame?”
Yehua listened quietly, her heart aching. She pulled out the chair across from him and sat down.
“Dr. Legare,” she said gently, “feelings can’t be forced. It’s not about who’s richer or more handsome. Dr. Pollock doesn’t love you—that’s her right. You can’t force someone to love you back.”
She looked at him with tears in her eyes. “It’s the same with us. I love you, but you don’t love me. Isn’t it ironic? We’re a perfect match—you’re a doctor, I’m a nurse. We work side by side every day. Wouldn’t it be great if we were a couple too? We’d understand each other, support each other.”
Her voice trembled. “So tell me—why don’t you like me? Am I not pretty enough? Not good enough? Do you think my work isn’t up to your standards? What makes you look down on me?”
