Ch. 4938: Married At First Sight Chapter 4938
Chapter 4938
Both of the York family’s elders—especially the old lady—were known for being playful. Belle adored her great-grandmother.
Partly, it was because she spent so much time with her, and partly because the old lady was still young at heart—almost childlike in spirit.
Everywhere the old lady went, Belle went too.
The old lady also loved to let Belle try different foods, as long as they were suitable for her. Unlike Serenity and Zachary, who were stricter about Belle’s diet, the old lady indulged her.
“Grandma, don’t rush me!” Alex said between bites, speeding up anyway.
He looked at her and teased, “You’re getting on in years, but your teeth are still amazing. You eat faster than I do!”
She chuckled. “That’s because the breakfast you made is soft and easy to digest. Of course I eat fast!”
“Alright, I’ll wait for you outside,” she said, standing up and heading out of the dining room.
Alex quickly finished his meal and left the dishes for the butler. He grabbed his half-finished cup of coffee, drained it in a few sips, set it down, picked up his car keys, and headed outside.
The old lady was already waiting in the yard.
When she saw him, she immediately stood. “Hurry up, hurry up! Belle must be waking up soon.”
Alex smiled helplessly. “Grandma, you used to tell us to sit for ten minutes after eating to help digestion. And now you’re making me rush?”
She waved a hand. “You’ll be sitting while you drive—it won’t hurt your digestion.”
Alex sighed. “...”
Ever since Belle was born, Grandma’s priorities had shifted completely. Her great-granddaughter came before everything else.
A few minutes later, Alex drove her over to Zachary’s place.
It wasn’t far—just a ten-minute drive.
When they arrived, Zachary and Serenity had already gone to work, and the house was quiet.
Alex parked the car. The butler came out to open the door for the old lady.
“Is Belle awake yet?” she asked eagerly.
The butler smiled. “Not yet, ma’am. There’s no hurry. Please, take your time.”
Hearing that Belle was still asleep, the old lady relaxed. “Good! I was worried she’d wake up and not see me. That’s why I kept urging Alex to drive faster—he even complained about me!”
Alex laughed. “Of course I did. Grandma, you only have eyes for your great-granddaughter now. We grandchildren are just background scenery to you.”
He and the butler both reached to help her out of the car, but she waved them off and stepped down steadily on her own.
As they walked into the house, Alex said, “I haven’t even had time for a glass of water yet. Since Belle’s still sleeping, I’ll grab one before we go upstairs.”
The old lady didn’t answer. She was already thinking of her great-granddaughter.
“Zack and Seren are out?” she asked the butler as they walked in.
“Yes, ma’am,” he replied. “Master Zack went to the office right after dropping Young Master Baby at school. Madam Seren left a bit later—around eight.”
The old lady nodded in understanding.
Once inside, she didn’t even pause to sit down—she went straight upstairs.
Belle usually slept in her parents’ room. Despite how close she was to her grandson, the old lady had always respected their boundaries.
Even for Zachary—whom she had raised herself—she never entered his bedroom uninvited after he married and had his own home.
She stopped at the doorway.
The door was slightly ajar.
Serenity had purposely left it that way before heading out—just in case Belle woke up and cried.
The little girl was too young to open doors on her own, so Serenity had left it open enough that Belle could call out or toddle downstairs if she woke up.
