Chairman Francoeur said slowly, “Your mother grew up in a comfortable environment. Life was too smooth for her. She doesn’t have a strong sense of independence, and she values family ties too deeply. That’s why your uncles and aunts can manipulate her emotionally.”

He paused before continuing.

“But she loves you more than anyone. She sacrificed a great deal—for you, for your father, and for our Francoeur family. You need to understand her. One day, when I’m gone, it’ll just be you and your mother. No matter what she does, don’t hold it against her.”

“The real power in this family is in your hands. Your mother only controls a small portion of money. Even if your uncles and aunts scheme, they can only take so much from her. Of course, it would be best if she eventually sees their true colors and completely wakes up.”

Chairman Francoeur understood his daughter-in-law’s weakness. Her family had always hoped to use her to gain control of the Francoeur business.

While her parents were alive, it wasn’t as obvious.

But after they passed, her siblings grew bold. They began plotting openly, trying to seize what belonged to the Francoeur family.

As long as he was alive and in charge, they didn’t dare act outright. Instead, they whispered in his daughter-in-law’s ear, urging her to demand control of the household and push him to transfer company shares to her name.

They even suggested that since his late son once held shares, those assets should automatically pass to his widow.

Chairman Francoeur had made his position clear.

He told his daughter-in-law that he would not touch what belonged to his son. The portion that should go to her would be hers. As for his own shares—and his granddaughter’s—they would all go to Winnie.

The house, cars, stocks, savings—everything had already been transferred into Winnie’s name.

Because she loved her daughter, his daughter-in-law gave up inheriting additional property and voluntarily transferred what she was entitled to directly to Winnie.

For that, her siblings called her foolish. They said she didn’t know how to secure her own future. They even warned her that if her daughter turned unfilial one day, she wouldn’t even have a place to live.

Chairman Francoeur had already handed over management of the household to his daughter-in-law. Between running the company and overseeing operations, he didn’t have the energy to manage domestic matters too.

As a result, her siblings came and went freely, taking whatever they liked.

No matter how many times he warned her, her soft heart never changed.

All of his valuable antiques were locked away in a private collection room. He had already made a will—those would all go to his granddaughter.

He truly worried about his daughter-in-law.

Fortunately, Winnie had a strong will. She was not swayed by emotional manipulation or blood ties.

Winnie let out a quiet sigh.

“Grandpa, I know Mom won’t change. I don’t expect her to. I just hope she stops telling me how difficult my cousins’ lives are, and stops asking me to arrange high-paying, easy jobs for them.”

“My uncle’s company has been declining for years. Meanwhile, the Francoeur Group is thriving. Of course they’re going to cling to us.”

She saw it clearly.

As her uncle’s family declined and the Francoeur family rose, greed and jealousy naturally followed.

“Mom only sees how hard her nieces and nephews have it,” Winnie continued, “but she doesn’t see how hard I have it. I carry more than they do. At least they have siblings to share the burden. I’m alone.”

Chairman Francoeur looked at her tenderly.

“Grandpa believes you can protect the Francoeur family. If you could find a good man, build a life together, and have two or three children, I would feel even more at ease.”

Winnie gave a faint smile.

“Grandpa, with our family background—and me being an only daughter—do you really think I can attract a man who loves me for me?”

“Even men from similar backgrounds would still calculate the value of our assets. Most of them are thinking about gaining access to our wealth.”

Chairman Francoeur fell silent.

After a moment, Winnie said calmly, “Grandpa, how about this? In a few years, once I’m fully established in the company and everyone respects my authority, I’ll do IVF.”

“I’ll have twins—a boy and a girl.”
